A night-time crackdown on rural roads in Tasmania’s Northern Midlands on Tuesday has resulted in 9 drivers being issued with infringements.
Police say during a brief 90-minute window, 2x drivers were caught driving drunk, 5 were caught exceeding the speed limit, 1 was caught without a licence and an unaccompanied learner driver tested positive for illicit drugs.
A number of vehicle defects were also detected.
Senior Constable Daniel Midson said it’s unfortunate to see motorists continuing to put others at risk.
“It is our mission to improve driver behaviour through education, engagement and enforcement to make our roads safer – we can be anywhere, anytime”.
Police are ramping up their road safety patrols in both urban and rural areas during the lead up to the festive season.
