Aerial water-bombing underway as Tasmania Fire Service battle Richmond bushfire

A smoke alert has been issued by the Tasmania Fire Service for people around the Richmond area as a bushfire burns this morning.

Those across Cambridge, Midway Point, Sorell, Dulcot, Richmond and the Coal River Valley area are being advised to avoid smoke from the blaze.

The fire is currently centred around Lands End in Richmond and poses “no threat to communities”, the TFS say.

“There is expected to be smoke, ash and embers from this fire visible around Cambridge, Midway Point, Sorell, Dulcot, Richmond and Coal River Valley area.”

Aerial water-bombing is currently underway, with one helicopter currently at the scene.

Flights departing from the nearby Hobart Airport directly over the blaze remain unimpacted at this stage.
