A group of Battery Point residents angry at large tourist buses passing through their streets are calling for them to be banned from the suburb.
The Battery Point Community Association say the diesel fumes coming from the large tourist buses is ‘impacting on the health of residents and visitors’ – as well as the ‘historic fabric’ – in Battery Point.
“It is requested that the Hobart City Council ban all diesel tourist buses and those with a carrying capacity greater than twenty people from travelling through the historic suburb of Battery Point,” the petition reads.
Just 12 signatures were presented on the petition at tonight’s council meeting, although Councillor Ryan Posselt says the number is over 100, which will be considered by the council at a later date.

Multiple operators run services through Battery Point, including the Hobart Red Decker tourist bus which includes 3 stops in the suburb several times a day, and Grayline coaches.
