Tasmanians are being warned to prepare for another round of high temperatures in the mid-30’s, bringing increased fire danger in the coming days.

Tasmania Fire Service Chief Officer, Dermot Barry, said the fire danger rating is forecast to reach “High” in many areas of the state due to hot temperatures, windy weather and low humidity on Thursday and Friday.

Although not yet declaring a Total Fire Ban, Tasmania Fire Service is putting a hold on issuing fire permits from Thursday until Sunday in the south and from Thursday until Monday in the north-west.

“We are asking people to think carefully before lighting campfires and using machinery, and if doing so please be extremely cautious,” said Barry.

“Over the coming days, Tasmania Fire Service and our fire partner agencies, Parks and Wildlife and Sustainable Timber Tasmania, will have firefighters, aircraft and incident management teams on standby and prepared ready to respond to any fires that may start.”

“These measures are routine for hot weather and high fire danger periods, but we also ask community members to take responsibility for keeping themselves and their neighbours safe.”

As a preventive measure, landowners who have recently had a fire on their property are urged to check the fire area immediately to ensure it is properly extinguished ahead of the hot weather.

Tasmanians are reminded to report any open fires promptly to Triple Zero (000) and to take responsibility for keeping themselves and their neighbours safe during these high fire danger conditions.
