Ariarne Titmus crowned Tasmanian Athlete of the Year for third time

Ariarne Titmus has been crowned the Tasmanian Athlete of the Year for the third time at an awards ceremony in Hobart tonight.

The Launceston-born 23-year-old is regarded as one the world’s ‘greatest ever female middle-distance swimmers’.

This year, Ariarne picked up two gold, a silver and a bronze medal at the 2023 World Aquatic Championships while also breaking two world records with her gold medal swims.

She beat out Socceroo Nathaniel Atkinson, cycling silver medallist Georgia Baker, world champion canoeist Kate Eckhardt and world champion sailor Will Sargent to take home the award.

The top award comes two weeks after an up and coming 15-year-old Launceston swimmer was awarded the inaugural Ariarne Titmus Scholarship and follows on from tumour surgery the olympian underwent in September.
