Armed robbery charges for alleged Devonport cash register thief

The man allegedly responsible for the armed robbery of a cash register at a Devonport business on Wednesday has been charged.

The 39-year-old man was arrested and taken into custody on Thursday morning, the day after fleeing the William Street newsagency.

Police said at the time he was ‘assisting officers in their investigations’.

A short time later, he was charged with a range of offences including armed robbery, aggravated burglary, burglary, attempted burglary and theft.

The man has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at the Devonport Magistrates Court on Friday morning.

Police launch manhunt for robbery suspect on the run with cash register

Tasmania Police are currently searching the Devonport area for a man believed to have committed a robbery this morning.

The man is described as being in his mid to late 30s, with slight ginger facial hair, wearing light grey pants, a grey hoodie, black gloves, dark sunglasses and black shoes with a white logo.

Police say he was involved in an incident at a business on William Street and was last seen fleeing the area on foot, heading up Oldaker Street toward Lindsay Place and Parker Street.

They say he may be carrying a cash register and warn the public not to approach him, but to call 131 444 if they spot him.
