A teenage boy has been arrested following overnight burglaries at several businesses across Tasmania’s north.
The 17-year-old is assisting police with enquiries into the break-ins in Port Sorell, Wesley Vale and East Devonport.
Several searches were conducted by Devonport Police on Thursday morning, leading to the recovery of stolen property and the boy’s arrest.
The businesses allegedly targeted include Brewstone Pizzeria and Cafe in Port Sorell and the Wesley Vale General Store.
“It is very disheartening when you put so much time and effort into a business … only to have disrespectful thieves break in and steal from you,” the Brewstone owners wrote online.
The Wesley Vale General Store apologised to customers for any inconvenience caused by the break-in.
“Unfortunately the post office will be limited as the damage was extensive,” the store said.
“We all work so hard at the shop to provide the best service that we can. It saddens me to think that some people think it’s ok to break in and steal from others and cause destruction on their way.”
Police say “specific lines of enquiry” are being followed in relation to further stolen property and other possible offenders.
