A teenager allegedly armed with a homemade firearm has been charged after an incident at a Hobart store on Tuesday.
The 19-year-old from Miandetta in Devonport is accused of stealing items from the CBD business in front of Tasmania Police officers who were on foot patrol.
The teenager was arrested at the scene and found to be carrying cannabis, stolen items and the illegal firearm.
Inspector John Toohey said the young man has been charged with a number of offences, including stealing, unlawful possession of a loaded firearm in public and selling a controlled plant.
“Our community deserves to feel safe at home, out in public and in their workplaces,” he said.
