A man has been arrested after scaling the roof of a house in Launceston and ‘verbally threatening’ police officers during an investigation into a stolen firearm.

The alleged incident involving a 38-year-old from Youngtown in the city’s south unfolded after a targeted search on Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, officers had to resort to deploying pepper spray “in an attempt to subdue the man”, who was then safely taken into custody.

A firearm believed to have been stolen during an aggravated burglary in Waverley back in December was recovered at the scene.
