An ‘avoid smoke’ warning has been issued for people on and around Mount Rumney in Cambridge this afternoon.
A controlled fuel reduction fire is currently burning on the mountain, with the Tasmania Fire Service asking locals and people in the area to expect smoke, ash and embers.
Hobart Fire Brigade crews are controlling the fire, which poses “no threat to communities”, in a bid to reduce the chance of uncontrollable bushfires in the area as we move into the warmer summer months.
Motorists on Cambridge Road and the Tasman Highway should exercise caution due to the smoke.
The TFS urges anyone witnessing worrisome fire activity to promptly report it by dialing 000.
Drivers on Cambridge Road and the Tasman Highway should be wary of smoke, and the TFS ask anyone that sees any fire activity that is causing concern is asked to call it in on 000.
