Big dreams for Glenorchy skaters as new $620k park opens

A new $620,000 skate park has opened in Glenorchy with the hope of attracting high-level skateboarding competitions to the state.

The Montrose Foreshore Park was professionally designed in collaboration with the Glenorchy community and is equipped with a flat rail and plaza style layout.

Glenorchy Mayor Bec Thomas said the facility will provide the community with an exciting and modern recreational space.

“We know that skateparks are popular recreational spaces, and we expect this to become a well-used and valued asset,” Thomas said.

“This modern, dynamic facility will provide an exciting and modern new recreational space for our community, in close proximity to one of Glenorchy’s most loved parks.”

The State Government provided $500,000 for the project, with the Federal Government contributing $120,000 through its Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
