The Department of Health has issued a warning against eating wild shellfish from Gardners Bay and Port Cygnet areas in Southern Tasmania until further notice.
The warning comes in response to elevated levels of biotoxins in shellfish, which can be harmful to human health.
Recreationally harvested shellfish, including oysters, mussels, clams, pipis, cockles, and wedge shells, should not be consumed from the affected area.
“Abalone, scallop roe and the intestines and livers (tomalley) of rock lobster can also be affected when toxic algal blooms are present,” a spokesperson said.
