Police will return to the Duckhole Lake area in Tasmania’s south this week as the search for a missing Launceston man continues six years after he was last seen.
Bruce Fairfax, who had Parkinson’s disease, went missing while out bushwalking in the Strathblane area with his wife on Saturday, October 14, 2017.
The couple separated, with Ms Fairfax informing the police that they had agreed to meet up at the lake once 66-year-old Mr Fairfax caught up.
Shortly after the initial disappearance, Police said they did not believe Fairfax would have survived without his medication for an extended period.

Despite extensive searches of the area at the time, he was never located, with Police now planning to conduct another search using a ‘criminal lens’ over the next two days.

“Police, and search and rescue personnel will be searching the Duckhole Lake Track area today and tomorrow,” a spokesperson said.
In 2017, a search by divers of the lake, as well as the use of a specialist dog to search the bushland area, failed to find any trace of Fairfax.
Police at the time said they were “confident Mr Fairfax did not enter the lake”.
“Any further information relevant to Mr Fairfax’s disappearance will be thoroughly investigated and we hope to bring closure to his family and loved ones,” Police said.
