Tasmania Police have confirmed 13 passengers, most of whom were students heading home from a north-west school, were onboard at the time.

A spokesperson said all students were assessed at the scene by Ambulance Tasmania.

One student was taken to hospital by their parents and another by ambulance to the Mersey Community Hospital for observations.

The driver had to be freed by emergency services after becoming trapped inside the bus, before he was taken to the Launceston General Hospital.

Images from the scene show a number of parents gathered on the side of the road, with multiple ambulances and other emergency service vehicles.

“The cause of the crash is unknown and further enquiries will be carried out by Ulverstone police,” a spokesperson said.
