Updated 10:20am, Thursday October 16: Firefighters are continuing to battle a bushfire at Launceston’s Cataract Gorge Reserve after the blaze broke out on Wednesday afternoon.
The fire was reported just after 3pm near the Alexandra Suspension Bridge.
Smoke was seen rising from beneath trees on the northern side of the First Basin.
Tasmania Fire Service crews this morning remain on-site working to contain the fire.
The cause of the blaze is not yet known.

The fire severe has issued an “avoid the area” bushfire advice warning for Cataract Gorge Reserve and Trevallyn.
“There is no immediate threat,” the service said. “Conditions are expected to improve.”
The Launceston City Council has closed the Alexandra Suspension Bridge, causeway and various walking tracks to the public.
“For public safety, we ask all visitors to adhere to the closures and avoid the area until further notice,” the council said.
