Smoke from a bushfire near Kingston is drifting across Hobart’s Southern Outlet, closing one lane of the highway.
Emergency services are at the fire, near Proctors Road.
Tasmania Police say smoke is affecting both northbound and southbound traffic and one lane is closed near the Proctors Road turn-off for drivers heading towards Hobart.
Police are asking drivers to slow down and “drive with extreme caution”.
The Tasmania Fire Service says the fire is contained.
“The fire is contained and there is no threat to communities,” the TFS said in a smoke alert.
“There is expected to be smoke, ash and embers from this fire visible around [the] Southern Outlet near Proctors Road.”
The fire service says drivers should turn on their headlights, drive slowly and watch for emergency services in the area.
