A bushwalker has been found dead in Tasmania’s remote south-west wilderness after failing to return from a solo trek to Federation Peak.
The body of a 39-year-old New South Wales man was discovered by another hiker near the peak on Monday morning.

Police were notified about 10am this morning.
A rescue helicopter reached the area and recovered the man’s body early in the afternoon.

Friends raised the alarm after the experienced bushwalker failed to return as planned on Sunday.
Police said the death is not being treated as suspicious.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
