UPDATE: A 17-year-old teenager has been arrested after an alleged stabbing in Launceston this afternoon.
Police say officers were alerted to the incident on Brisbane Street around 2:25pm on Friday.
The male victim received serious, non life-threatening, abdominal injuries after he was allegedly wounded with a knife.
“The victim was taken to the Launceston General Hospital by ambulance and is receiving medical treatment,” a Police spokesperson said.
“This was an isolated incident, and the alleged offender was quickly taken into custody.”
The teenager has been charged with wounding and possess dangerous article in a public place and will appear in a youth court on Saturday.
EARLIER: A busy street in the Launceston CBD has been shut this afternoon as Police respond to an “isolated incident”.
Brisbane Street between George and St John Street is currently closed, with motorists and pedestrians asked to avoid the area.
A witness at the scene told Pulse a person was allegedly seen yelling and brandishing a knife on the street before authorities arrived.
It is understood a ‘good samaritan’ who was ‘trying to break up a fight’ was stabbed.
Police say one person has received injuries and another is in custody.
The extent and exact cause of the injuries remains unconfirmed at this stage.
