The Cairns Taipans defeated the Tasmania JackJumpers 91-82 in a thrilling matchup in Hobart on Saturday.
The Taipans, who are currently third in the league, were down by five points in the final quarter, but a 16-2 run helped them secure the victory and bring their season record to 10-5.
Keanu Pinder led the Taipans with a career-best 34 points, while Tahjere McCall added 23 points.
The JackJumpers were led by Jack McVeigh, who scored 17 points, despite sitting out much of the first and second quarters.
Although the JackJumpers led for much of the game, they were unable to contain the Taipans in the final minutes and fell short of the victory.
“The ball got quite stagnant for us in the fourth quarter,” said JackJumpers coach Scott Roth.
“We didn’t make any shots and we weren’t able to contain them very much in the last two or three minutes. We had opportunities but they were just better than us.”
