Snug Beach, a popular spot for swimming and boating south of Hobart, has recently come under scrutiny from concerned residents.
They are calling on the Kingborough council to install a pontoon, similar to the one at nearby Kingston Beach, in order to address safety concerns.
Many teenagers have reportedly been spotted jumping from the existing bridge over the river into the water and off moored boats, which residents say is an “accident waiting to happen.”

The residents are urging the council to take action and install a pontoon to provide a safer swimming and boating experience for the community.
However, the council has ruled out the installation of a pontoon citing its substantial cost of $50,000.
Kingborough councillor Clare Glade-Wright acknowledged the issue was raised in a recent council meeting but was ultimately not moved forward due to the cost.

The residents are not deterred by the council’s decision and have discussed the idea of ‘crowd-funding’ the pontoon in a local social media community group in case the council is unwilling to provide financial support.
