Residents of Bridport are calling for action to be taken at the junction of Main Street and Henry Street, which has become a source of confusion for both pedestrians and motorists.
The town’s deputy mayor, Dale Jessup, reignited the call to turn the confusing speed bump into a pedestrian crossing at the council’s January meeting.
Councillors say while current signage indicates pedestrians should give way to vehicles, not everyone follows the rules.
Mayor Greg Howard has expressed concerns over the increasing number of near misses at the intersection, which he says is particularly problematic for visitors.
Despite a previous visit from the Transport Commissioner, the spot was not converted into a pedestrian crossing.
The council is planning to write to the Transport Commissioner once again and say if their efforts hit a brick wall again, they may simply consider lowering the speed limit in an effort to reduce the risk of danger at the intersection.
