The new Cam River bridge in Tasmania’s north-west is finally set to open to traffic after several delays and months of construction.
Westbound traffic on the Bass Highway will transition onto the new $20 million bridge from 6am this morning, while eastbound traffic will have to wait a few more weeks yet.
Night works will be undertaken to widen the approaches to the new bridge, allowing for the switch of eastbound traffic in the coming weeks.
Upon completion of the eastbound lane approaches, traffic bound for Burnie will be redirected onto the new bridge and the old bridge will be closed for demolition.
The new traffic lights at the junction of the Bass and Murchison highways will become operational once all traffic has transitioned to the new bridge.
“The overall project remains on budget and on time for completion,” Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Michael Ferguson said.
“Please keep to the speed limits and follow the directions of traffic controllers and signs.
