Police are searching for the driver of a brown 1999 Commodore station wagon that crashed into the Jack Jumpers High Performance Centre in Kingston on Saturday night.
The $20 million facility only opened on Thursday after years of planning and construction.
The club has since released dramatic CCTV footage showing the car speeding toward the building before a man is seen running away on foot.
The incident began around 10pm when uniform police patrolling the Kingston area tried to intercept the Commodore on Kingston View Drive.
The driver allegedly evaded officers and the vehicle turned off Kingston View Drive before police lost sight of it.
A short time later, the car was seen driving across the grassed area in front of the centre before crashing into the building.
Police say a male occupant was seen fleeing the scene on foot.
Damage to the building is understood to be limited to a retaining wall and a window frame.
“There was no event on at the centre and no persons were injured,” a Tasmania Police spokesperson said.
A JackJumpers spokesperson said the club was working to understand the extent of the damage.
“We’re currently assessing the damage, but at this stage it appears only minor and thankfully no one was hurt,” the spokesperson said.
“We’d like to thank Tasmania Police for their assistance and encourage anyone with information to please contact police.”
Tasmania Police insisted that its officers were not pursuing the vehicle at the time of the crash, sending a “senior officer” to the scene to examine the circumstances.
Police are now appealing for witnesses who may have seen the vehicle being driven erratically in the Kingston area.
