Tasmania Police have paused their search near Waratah after a second day of scouring for items linked to missing Belgian woman Celine Cremer.

Crews were winched into a section of the Arthur River on Saturday, focusing downstream from where human remains and clothing were discovered on Friday.

A team of six search and rescue experts found no further items during Saturday’s operation.

Commander Nathan Johnston said the Friday discoveries “remain significant” despite the lack of new finds.

“While it is unfortunate we have not located any further items today, our crews have searched extensively over the past two days,” he said.

“At this stage, the search will not resume tomorrow, with a plan to reassess the situation.”

On Friday, police located more human remains, a polar fleece jacket and other clothing items about two and a half kilometres from Philosopher Falls.

The first remains were discovered on Wednesday by a volunteer who had been dedicated to searching for the 31-year-old.

Cremer, from Belgium, was last seen on June 17, 2023, in the small town of Waratah.

She is believed to have driven to Philosopher Falls and set off on a short bushwalk through the dense rainforest.

Formal forensic identification of the remains is still pending, but police say the location and nature of the items strongly suggest they belong to Cremer.

Her family in Belgium has been notified and is receiving updates.

“As we have previously stated, we understand the strong public interest in this case and will continue to provide information to the community when we are able to do so,” Commander Johnston said.
