Christian Homes Tasmania has broken ground on Pinnacle Village, a $120 million aged care precinct at Kingston it says is the largest of its kind Tasmania has seen in years.

The development will combine residential aged care, assisted living and independent living on one site at Village Drive and Alfreds Garden.

It will also include a cafe, hairdresser, meeting spaces and offices.

About 150 construction workers will be employed during the two-year build. Once open, the precinct is expected to create 150 aged care jobs.

Christian Homes Tasmania chief executive Glenn Hardwick said the site was first bought about eight years ago.

“We recognise the urgent demand and community requirement for aged care in our community,” Hardwick said.

“Pinnacle Village will revolutionise what aged care looks like in Tasmania.”

The project will bring assisted living to Tasmania for the first time, offering private serviced apartments with support for daily tasks.

Residents will be able to move between levels of care as their needs change, which the organisation describes as a “continuum of care”.

Pinnacle Village was designed with Circa Morris Nunn Chua Architects, known for luxury developments including Saffire and MACq 01.

The project has been years in the making. Flooding destroyed the old community centre in 2018, before COVID-19 caused further delays.

The organisation later bought adjoining land for the independent living component.

Kingborough Council approved the aged care and assisted living component in April 2025.

Christian Homes Tasmania says the precinct answers a pressing need, pointing to growing demand for aged care beds across the state as the population ages.

The organisation is also pursuing a 44-unit independent living retirement village on neighbouring land at Lot 555 Alfreds Garden.

That proposal features 22 duplexes, each with two-bedroom units, plus a 240-square-metre community hub.

Christian Homes Tasmania already runs aged care facilities across Kingborough and employs more than 250 staff.
