New data collected by Australian research firm Pureprofile has revealed 29% of Hobart locals have experienced a break-up in the last 12 months, more than any other Australian capital city.
The report, commissioned by toilet paper brand Who Gives A Crap, made the finding during a survey of over 5,000 Australians 18 years and older.
Following closely behind Hobart’s near 30% break-up rate were Canberra at 27% and Sydney at 26%.
The survey data also suggests that Tasmanians are the second-biggest ‘romantic relic hoarders’ in Australia, with 71% of Tasmanians refusing to throw out their ex’s things post-breakup, behind the Northern Territory at 75%.
The toilet paper company are now encouraging heartbroken Tasmanians to send their old love letters to them for recycling into ‘environmentally friendly’ toilet paper.
“We hope we can help the heartbroken turn over a new sheet ahead of Valentine’s Day – all while doing something good for the planet with our 100% recycled toilet paper,” Who Gives A Crap spokesperson Maria Chilewicz said.
