A Smithton man has been charged in connection with an alleged wounding incident in the north-west Tasmanian town earlier this week.
The man, who is in his 40s, is alleged to have wounded another person on King Street on December 13.
Detective Acting Sergeant Jeremy Williams said the man was arrested after an investigation conducted over the past few days.
The man has since been charged with one count of wounding, in addition to firearm and minor drug offences.
“We would like to re-assure the community that this is an isolated incident and both parties were known to each other,” Williams said.
“We would encourage any member of the Smithton community that witnessed the incident or has information regarding the incident to come forward.”
Information can be provided anonymously through the Western Criminal Investigation Branch or Crime Stoppers.
The man was held in custody and made an appearance in the Burnie Magistrates Court on Saturday.
