While Dark Mofo might be off the calendar for this coming winter, dates have today been confirmed for both the popular Winter Feast and Nude Solstice Swim.
The festival, which is Tasmania’s biggest event, was cancelled in September last year as organisers felt the need to “take stock of changing conditions and rising costs in order to reset the festival for the future”.
Now, four months later, organisers have confirmed that Hobart will once again be lit up in red from June 13 to 23.
The scaled down event will feature a mix of both classics and new additions, including the late-night club Night Shift and fresh exhibitions at the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA).
The Winter Feast will cover two weeks at Princes Wharf 1 (PW1) from Thursday, June 13 to Sunday, June 16 and Thursday, June 20 to Sunday, June 23.
Following a record turnout last year, the Nude Solstice Swim is expanding its capacity for 2024 and will once again take place at Long Beach at sunrise on Friday, June 21.
Dark Mofo Artistic Director Chris Twite said the festival has been a “beacon of artistic exploration” for the last decade and confirmed it will be returning in 2025.
“This year, by taking a fallow year, we are taking a crucial step in ensuring that Dark Mofo continues to be a catalyst for artistic innovation, cultural dialogue and shared experiences for many years to come,” Twite said.
“While the festival rests in 2024, the solstice does not and we are excited to gather once more to present two popular pillars of the Tasmanian midwinter, along with some exceptional extra events.”
Full event lineups, including a surprise guest chef, are expected be announced in the coming weeks.
