Two lead-footed drivers have lost their licences after they were caught speeding at 170km/h on the Bass Highway.
Both drivers, including a P-plater driving a black Ford Falcon, were caught by highway patrol officers travelling at 60km/h over the 110km/h limit near Westbury around 4:30pm on Friday.
The P-plater was snapped speeding first, “closely followed” by the driver of a white Toyota Hilux.
Senior Constable Chris Rockliff said both drivers have been fined $1100, had their licences suspended for at least four months and their vehicles clamped for 28 days.
“Whilst the officers were dealing with those drivers two motorcyclists passed by at similar excessive speeds,” Rockliff said.
“Such excessive speed on a major highway, in peak hour Friday afternoon traffic, is outright dangerous to all road users and could very easily result in a fatal crash.”
“In the lead up to Christmas, into the new year, police will be focusing on such high-risk driving, anywhere, anytime.”

Investigators are seeking witnesses who may have seen the speeding Suzuki motorcycles to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
