The Glenorchy City Council has proposed turning part of the popular Knights Point Reserve in Claremont into a sealed car park.
Under the plan for the Kestrel Street reserve, the current gravel access would be replaced with a formal asphalt car park.
The reserve is a well-used spot for dog walkers and provides access to Windermere Beach on the River Derwent.
Plans lodged by the council show 17 parking bays, each measuring 5.4 metres long by 2.5 metres wide, along with a sealed surface.
The project would also include a relocated access gate, rock boulders to act as vehicle barriers and concrete kerbing.

A large existing gum tree in the park would be protected and retained.
However, some smaller trees and bushes would be removed to make way for the new car park.
Residents have until October 27 to lodge submissions on the proposal with the council.
