Cricket Tasmania has been successful in the first part of its plan to develop a new state-of-the-art sporting complex at Seven Mile Beach.
The organisation this week received support from Royal Hobart Golf Club members, who endorsed the sale of their land for the project.
The planned facility will serve as a hub for cricket, with administration, game development and education facilities to support cricket’s growth in the region.
Cricket Tasmania CEO Dominic Baker said there were still a number of hurdles to work through, including funding.
“The sale provides us with a fantastic opportunity to create something truly world-class at the site at Seven Mile Beach and become one of the leading high-performance centres in the country,” he said.

“Our next step is really to work closely with Clarence Council … We need to do some detailed planning to look at the site and work out exactly where we put everything.”
The organisation anticipates a five-year timeline for the project’s completion.
“I think the reality, even if we got all our funding today, is that cricket grounds take a little bit longer than normal playing fields … they take a minimum of three years to get ready and get prepared,” Baker said.
