Cyclist seriously injured after being hit by police car in St Helens

A cyclist has been seriously injured after being hit by a police car in St Helens on Sunday night.

The crash occured around 8:30pm near the intersection of Jason Street and the Tasman Highway on June 7.

A woman riding a motorised bicycle sustained serious but non life-threatening injuries in the collision.

She was initially treated at St Helens District Hospital before being transferred to Royal Hobart Hospital.

No one else was physically injured.

Police are investigating the incident and have asked anyone with information or who may have witnessed the crash to contact them on 131 444.

Police say a Professional Standards investigation will also be carried out to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
