Damaging winds to smash Hobart and surrounds tonight: BOM

The BOM are warning of severe and damaging winds for those in Tasmania’s south tonight.

Gusts “in excess of 100 km/h” are possible for people in the New Norfolk, Bushy Park, Hobart, Geeveston, Dover and Huonville areas.

Western Hobart will also be impacted by strong winds from the early hours of Tuesday morning until just after sunrise.

“A fast moving cold front is expected to be near the west coast late this afternoon and reach the Tasman Sea by early Tuesday morning,” the BOM say.

“Vigorous northwesterly winds will shift west southwesterly behind the front.”

“Winds are expected to fully ease below warning thresholds mid Tuesday morning.”

The State Emergency Service advises residents to closely supervise children, inform their family and neighbors about the warnings, and secure any outdoor items such as furniture and play equipment.
