A severe weather warning for damaging winds has been issued for parts of Tasmania’s south and east, including Hobart.
The Bureau of Meteorology says a deepening low-pressure system is expected to bring “sharp” low-pressure trough with it on Friday morning.
This will likely cause “strengthening westerly winds” across southern and eastern parts of the state.
Damaging winds averaging 60 to 70km/h with peak gusts of around 100km/h are likely for a period on Friday morning.
Peak gusts could possibly reach around 110km/h in the far south.
The BOM expects winds to ease below warning thresholds by around midday Friday.
“Locations which may be affected include Swansea, New Norfolk, Bothwell, Hobart, Geeveston and Dover,” the BOM said.
The State Emergency Service (SES) is advising people to supervise children closely, check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings and secure outdoor items.
They are also asking people to be prepared for power outages and to manage pets and livestock.
“Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving,” the SES said.
