Residents across Tasmania are being warned to brace themselves for damaging winds forecasted to sweep the state this afternoon.
The Tasmania State Emergency Service (SES) is urging people to prepare and take necessary precautions in order to keep themselves safe.
According to the SES Assistant Director, Leon Smith, the BOM is closely monitoring the weather conditions and warns that damaging winds are likely to hit many parts of the state today.
“A severe weather warning issued by the Bureau of Meteorology forecasts damaging winds over large portions of the state from mid-late afternoon today,” he said.

“Last night Tasmania SES received several reports of trees and powerlines down.”
“With damaging winds forecast for later today there is potential for further trees and powerlines to be brought down.”

The volunteer crews of the SES have been put on high alert and are ready to respond to any emergency incidents that may arise.
Smith added that anyone planning on venturing into alpine areas should be aware of potential snowfall about western, central, and southern Tasmania overnight.
The State Emergency Service advises residents to take precautions by supervising children closely, checking in with family and neighbours, securing outdoor items such as furniture and play equipment and reporting any power outages to TasNetworks on 132 004.
Residents are also urged to beware of damaged trees and power lines and to take extra care while driving.
