Damaging winds with gusts of around 100km/h could hit southern Tasmania from tomorrow afternoon, prompting a severe weather warning.
A “fast-moving cold front” is expected to sweep across the south on Thursday, bringing westerly winds averaging 60 to 70km/h before shifting south-westerly.
Dover and surrounding areas are among those most likely to be affected.
Conditions should ease early on Friday, although gusty winds may continue during the day.
A road weather alert is also in place for parts of the western and Central Plateau forecast districts, with snow-covered roads above 400 metres expected to make driving dangerous on Thursday.
Bushwalkers have been warned of strong winds, low temperatures and snow falling to around 400 metres, possibly dropping to 300 metres in the south-west.
The SES has urged residents in the impacted forecast districts to monitor conditions closely.
It warned the winds could bring down trees, branches and powerlines, send loose objects flying and damage property and vehicles.
