The driver allegedly behind the wheel of a stolen ute has been apprehended after being intercepted by police on the Midland Highway at Melton Mowbray this morning.
Police were alerted to the grey Mitsubishi Triton, registered to O’Byrne Plumbing, travelling south on the Midland Highway from Launceston in a “dangerous manner” on Sunday morning.
The vehicle, reported stolen from Launceston earlier in the morning, was brought to a stop by police approximately 100km south of the city at 11am.
“Police would like to speak to any driver that was overtaken dangerously … in particular any driver who had to take evasive action to prevent a head on collision when the offending vehicle proceeded onto the incorrect side of the highway,” police said.
Police have also requested any motorists with dashcam footage to come forward.
