Multiple Metro bus services travelling to Hobart’s northern suburbs have been cut short due to ongoing rock attacks.

Evening services 522, 530 and X30 to Gagebrook have been suspended until further notice because of recent “recurring incidents of dangerous rock-throwing at buses”.

The state-owned bus operator say affected routes will now terminate at the Cove Hill Shopping Centre after 7pm, leaving local residents to either walk the 3 km distance to Gagebrook or find alternative transportation for the remainder of their journey.

“We recognise the inconvenience this may cause but unfortunately, this is a step that needs to be taken to protect the safety of our drivers and customers,” a Metro spokesperson said.

“Metro is working closely with Tasmania Police on the issue. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”

This is not the first time services to the Hobart suburb have been disrupted.

Similar incidents led to a week-long suspension in September 2023, when drivers were only permitted to enter Gagebrook with a police escort.
