Clarence City Councillors could tonight back the next step of a proposed AFL High-Performance Centre at Rosny Parklands.
Councillors will vote on whether to take the State Government’s proposal to transform the former Rosny Golf Course into Tasmania’s AFL/AFLW High-Performance Centre out to community consultation or reject the proposal on the site.
Mayor Brendan Blomeley said that the council wants to encourage sports growth and development in the city but won’t agree to a site without knowing what the community wants.
“Council is also wanting and willing to investigate other sites within the city to test other viable options,” said Blomeley.

“If council vote to put the proposal out to community consultation and the majority of the community are not supportive of having a High Performance Centre in Clarence, then Council will not progress the project.”
“There are many views around the council table, and I look forward to the respectful and robust discussions.”
Councillors will vote on recommendations that will see community consultation undertaken to determine the preferred location, which could be in Clarence generally, exclusively at Rosny Parklands, at dual sites covering Rosny Parkland and Charles Hand Park or at other suitable sites within the city.
