The Circle Street Derwent Valley Council Chambers is facing an unknown repair bill after a burst water pipe flooded the building earlier this month.
Mayor Michelle Dracoulis said on September 5th that staff arrived for work to find the office flooded after a water pipe burst inside a second-floor wall.
The substantial amount of water caused damage to ground floor offices and the council’s customer service area, both of which remain closed.
A temporary customer service center has been set up in the social rooms and can be accessed at the side of the chambers, in between the council building and the courthouse.

“It will remain in place until the front area can be fixed and rebuilt, which we expect to take several months,” the council says.
The damage bill is expected to be large, potentially reaching hundreds of thousands of dollars.
