DIY handgun crafted from wood and metal seized by Tasmania Police

Two imitation firearms and a homemade gun have been seized during separate incidents in Devonport in the past week.

The first incident occurred on December 6 when Taskforce Scelus officers found two gel blasters and a quantity of drugs at a home.

A 55-year-old Devonport man was charged and bailed to appear in court in February as a result.

The second incident took place two days later on December 8 when officers stopped and searched a vehicle.

A homemade handgun was found during the search, leading to charges against a 36-year-old East Devonport man.

He was charged with firearm and drug-related offences and bailed to appear in the Devonport Magistrates Court in February.

Police are urging anyone with information about illegal firearms or illicit substances to contact them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
