High levels of bacteria recently detected in sampling at Blackmans Bay Middle have resulted in a “no swim advisory”, according to the Kingborough Council.
The public has been advised not to swim at the beach due to the health risk, following a sewerage blockage and spill in the bay on Friday.
“This event may have contributed to the recent poor water quality results,” the council said.
“Council will continue to monitor this area and signage will be removed once compliant sample results are received.”

The council say their stormwater investigations officer has been actively monitoring storm water infrastructure in area to identify any contamination sources, alongside working with TasWater to identify and rectify any identified contamination sources.
The source of Fridays blockage and spill has since been fixed by TasWater, the council added.
