Some pools at Hobart’s Doone Kennedy Aquatic Centre will be closed from Monday next week while the city council carries out crucial maintenance work.

The closure is expected to last three days from February 5 to February 8, and will affect the waterslide, tipping bucket, leisure pool and 25-metre recreational pool.

The council says “critical repairs” are needed on a cracking “major inlet pipe” that pumps water into warm water pools at the facility, especially given that the two pools together hold a combined 760,000 litres of water.

“The repairs have been timed to be completed before the start of this year’s Learn to Swim lessons, which start on Tuesday 13 February and after the popular School Holiday Splash activities,” the City of Hobart says.

“The 50-metre lap pool will be temporarily divided into two 25 metre lap pools, with a designated play area for competent swimmers.”

The pool café opening hours will be impacted by the closure and some water aqua aerobics classes have been cancelled.
