A fun run that has raised more than $123,000 for the hospital units caring for the state’s sickest babies and children returns to Tasmania’s far south next month.

The Dover Fun Run has been raising money for the Royal Hobart Hospital’s paediatric intensive care unit since 2019. Organisers put the total so far at $123,179.96.

They said every dollar of entry fees went directly to the hospital’s neonatal and paediatric intensive care units.

The money helps pay for “better equipment, better resources and better care for Tasmanian kids and the families standing beside them”, organisers said.

Organisers described the event as “a little community at the bottom of Tasmania coming together and doing something that has real impact for real families”.

They said they wanted to help families “that are facing their worst fears”.

The course follows the foreshore of Port Esperance, with views across the bay and towards Adamsons Peak.

Runners can choose from four distances, from a two-kilometre children’s event to a half marathon.

Organisers describe the 21-kilometre half marathon, now in its third year, as “Tasmania’s answer to the Great Ocean Road Half”, with “serious elevation”.

Children aged 10 and younger can take part in Annabelle’s Run, a two-kilometre course on closed roads.

Organisers said it is about “first finish lines” and raises money “for children just like them”.

The five-kilometre event, which participants can walk, run, jog or roll, is “where the whole community comes together” and sells out every year, organisers said.
