A young driver has been slapped with a 12-month licence disqualification for getting behind the wheel while more than six times the legal blood alcohol limit.
The 26-year-old man from Cambridge was stopped by police on suspicion of drink driving around 2:30pm on Monday afternoon.
Officers allege he returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.317, which is 6.34 times the legal limit.
The driver will face charges of driving under the influence and exceeding the legal blood alcohol limit at a future court appearance.
The incident has left police thankful a serious incident didn’t occur, warning “the consequences could have been far worse”.
“Never get behind the wheel if you’re under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” they said.
“[You’re putting] your life and the lives of other road users at risk.”
