The driver of a car who crashed into a parked ambulance at the scene of a fatal crash in Hobart last night was drunk, Police say.
The 25-year-old Risdon Vale man, who smashed into the responding ambulance on the East Derwent Highway, returned a reading of 0.207 – more than twice the legal limit.
He has been disqualified from driving for two years and will appear in court at a later date, charged with high range drink driving.
Inspector Andrew Keane said the man had placed themselves, the Tasmanian community and our emergency services workers in danger.
“It is very lucky that no-one was injured,” he said.
“No one can drive safely if they are under the influence of alcohol, and this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated.”
“If you’ve been drinking, please don’t drive.”
