A 47-year-old man from Tasmania’s north-west has been charged with drink driving after being caught five times over the legal limit.
The incident occurred in Burnie’s CBD at around 8pm yesterday when the man attempted to drive off in his vehicle, despite members of the public trying to prevent him from doing so.
Police were called to the scene and took the man into custody, where he returned a breath alcohol reading of 0.245.
Sergeant Jason Dicker from Tasmania Police thanked the community members for their assistance in removing the intoxicated driver from the roads.
“We encourage anyone who witnesses drink driving or other dangerous driving behaviours to contact us on 131 444 or triple-zero (000) in an emergency,” stated Sergeant Dicker.
The man will appear in court at a later date to face charges of drink driving.
