A 66-year-old woman from Lauderdale has been charged with high-range drink driving after she was caught drunk behind the wheel during a high-visibility traffic operation in Mannata Street.
After failing to stop at the site, she was intercepted and breath tested shortly thereafter.
The woman’s reading was a shocking 0.199, almost four times the legal limit, leading to an immediate disqualification of her license for two years.
Inspector Jim Semmens commented on her dangerous driving, saying that the woman put herself, the police officers and the Tasmanian community at risk.
He reinforced the message that no one can drive safely under the influence and that such behavior will not be tolerated.
The woman will appear in court at a later date to face the consequences of her actions.
Inspector Semmens reminded the public that the message is simple: if you’ve been drinking, don’t drive.
