A woman caught driving at more than five times the legal alcohol limit has been charged.

The 51-year-old from Mangalore was pulled over by police on the Midland Highway for a random breath test around 4pm on Sunday.

She blew a reading of 0.255, well above the legal limit of 0.05.

Acting Inspector Martin Parker said driving under the influence of alcohol is “unacceptable”.

“This driver was more than 5 times the legal limit and put not only herself in danger, but other road users,” he said.

The woman has been charged with exceeding the prescribed alcohol limit and bailed to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court in January.

“Our members will continue to conduct random breath tests to ensure all motorists can use our roads safely,” Parker said.
