Police on Hobart’s Eastern Shore are ramping up their efforts to clamp down on reckless, hooning drivers.
Officers have warned that they will seize more vehicles and catch offenders to put an end to the dangerous behaviour on the roads.
Inspector Marco Ghedini said thanks to recent tip-offs, a 16-year-old hoon has been charged and their trail bike has been confiscated.
“This person was, at the time of offending, unaware they were being monitored by police,” Ghedini said.
“This was a deliberate and effective strategy which resulted in the trail bike being seized and the youth rider identified.”
This crackdown comes after two drivers were caught doing burnouts in Pontville last weekend.
These drivers are now facing enforcement action, with one having their car impounded indefinitely and the other having their wheels clamped for three months.
“Recent messaging with respect to hooning has been clear – police will investigate every reported incident and we ask the community to continue to provide information to police so offending drivers or riders can be identified.”
